First Congregational Church of Oakland

our 2019 Winter Solstice Celebration home

It is the turning of the year, and the spirits of Solstice Revelers, driven from their customary haunts, are coming together. They summon the Revels family to sing the glorious music of many ages and myriad places. They enact familiar customs, dances and joyful festivities drawn from the many decades of Revels celebration. Young and old, the spirits embrace the rich variety of favorite traditions.

Like the spirits described above, we have become itinerant revelers, Turned out from our home of many years, the Scottish Rite Theatre, we are determined to keep our tradition alive and will once again provide you with the opportunity to gather and celebrate the turning of the year in traditional Revels fashion.

This year, our festivities will be hosted by the warm and welcoming First Congregational Church, only blocks away from our former home. There will be eight performances from December 13th through the 22nd, and more details, including ticket information will be posted here soon.

Times shift and the world changes, but wherever our spirits gather, that place is where the heart and soul of Revels lives.

Join us this December for our annual celebration of the winter Solstice. Keep the tradition alive.

Adult Chorus

Every year, California Revels puts together a chorus totaling up to 50 or more singers. For many chorus members, participating in Revels is the highlight of the holiday season, bringing them together in community, transporting them to another time, giving them comfort in the darkest days of the year. And, it’s a lot of fun!

Young Performers

Many of the Young Performers have appeared previously in the Christmas Revels children's chorus and many of them will pass into the ranks of the adult chorus, often after a time away for college. The talent and performing energy that our youngsters add to the stage is undeniable. Their participation broadens the scope of what we can do and adds yet one more ingredient to the wonderful stew that is a Revels performance.

Children's Chorus

Maintaining school work and setting aside sports and other activities can be a challenge, but the artistic and social development of children in the Revels chorus is extremely rewarding. Several members of the adult chorus can point to the children's chorus as their first experience of Revels, and the start of their performing career.
