To mark the Shortest Day of the year and the Winter holidays, we invite you participate to welcome Yule with revelry and cheer!
1st! Community carol-sings
Sing with the Community Chorus (everyone!) at John Hinkel Park, 41 Somerset Place, Berkeley. Rain location: Unitarian Fellowship Hall, 1924 Cedar Street, Berkeley. Sing as you are! Everyone welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Come to as many Carol-Sings as you can. Each Carol-Sing is a free event.
Music Director Alex Taite will lead.

2nd! Come "caroling in the rain"
Come caroling with us on pre-planned routes in Berkeley, to homes that are joyfully anticipating us.
Choose your own points of participation. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This event is festive, family-friendly, fun, and free! Music Director Alex Taite will lead.

We're singing (and practicing) a selection of the following:
- Yuletide carols - Nature or Solstice focused, with new lyrics, sung to beloved & familiar holiday carol melodies.
- Christmas carols - Traditional (Christian) carols.
- Wassails - Jolly traditional English visiting songs, typically requesting treats like fruit, cake, or drink. We DO NOT expect any such thing... (nor would we necessarily turn it down)!

3rd! Come the Winter Solstice - Welcome carolers to your door!
Choose your preferred date!
Thursdsay, December 21st from 6-9pm, Friday, December 22nd from 6-9pm, or Saturday, December 23rd from 5-7pm. We're not able to guarantee specific times within the time window, but when the route is filled (time-wise) and mapped, we can tell you approximately what time we'll arrive, in advance. Select your preferred repertoire! Choose Yuletide or Christmas carols, or both, and all selections come with a wassail! There are so many lovely carols, that we can't offer them all (because we're focusing on quality and confidence over quantity), but we know you'll enjoy what we sing! There is a nominal fee for reservations, to help with costs. |

Why and how does California Revels do this program for free?
California Revels' mission is "Creating Community through Celebration". We facilitate a joyful framework for people to come together, in person and as a community, because our future is shared. The entire "Caroling in the Rain" program and series of events, are offered free and below cost in service of that mission. With this particular program, California Revels hopes to pilot a new model for participatory community celebration. If it's successful, we hope it will be adopted by other community minded organizations and municipalities.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, working for social good. Ticket sales (when we have them) for events don't cover the costs of producing those events; they simply help defray the the costs. Currently, our funding comes largely from a combination of private donations and public grants. We are always looking at how to expand our funding base in a changing economic and social climate. Our work is fueled by moral determination and an ethic of hope, knowing there are no guarantees. If you feel moved to donate to California Revels, we are always very thankful.
- California Revels is pleased to facilitate this "coming-together" of community, but we don't have the resources to provide community transportation for this event. Take this opportunity to build community by connecting with fellow Choristers at our Saturday Carol-Sings to discuss walking or riding together.
- Routes and logistics will be provided to all who register for this event. Routes will have approximate timing.
- Join in when and how you please.
- Do you have an e-reader or book light? These will be helpful for you to bring, to read music (above) or lyrics.
- Bring your warm coats, walking shoes, umbrellas, hats & flashlights! This is an El Nino year, and it is expected to rain!
