Lisby Mayer (1947-2005)
Founding Reveler Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer (known as "Lisby") was Artistic Director of California Revels for many years. Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer, Ph.D., was an internationally known psychoanalyst, researcher, and clinician, the author of groundbreaking papers on female development, the nature of science, and intuition, and a contributor to Consciousness and Healing, published by the Institute of Noetic Sciences. In addition to her private practice, she was associate clinical professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and also taught at UC Medical Center, San Francisco. In an article about her passing in 2005, the East Bay Times reported on her incredible influence for California Revels and the wider Bay Area community. The article states that her influence started with a 1986 staged production of “The Christmas Revels” at Mills College, with a theme of Medieval England. We are proud to announce that Revels returns to that original theme with the 2025 production of Feast of Fools at our new venue in Hayward, California. Charlie McMillan (1954-2024)
Dr. Charlies F. McMillan passed away on September 6, 2024. After his California Revels experiences, he and his family moved to New Mexico, where he served as Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory until his retirement in 2017. On January 28, 2025, the Revels community held a memorial honoring his life. Videos and photos available on the Revels Facebook site. Below is a tribute from Reveler Theresa Nelson: "You may have already heard the very sad news that Charlie McMillan, a longtime California Revels performer, passed away last week after a car accident in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he lived in recent years. Charlie had been involved with Revels for a number of years when I joined in 2000, and he contributed in so many ways, up until he moved to take over leadership at the Los Alamos lab. He was a wonderful singer, of course, a terrific dancer, played recorder for the Abbott's Bromley (seemingly without ever taking a breath!). He took beautiful "stage family" photos for many of us, recorded live performances, and served on the board for years as well. His wife Jan was part of Revels for many years, on and off-stage, and their children, Paul, Katherine, and Caroline performed with Revels for years, as well as daughter-in-law Suzanne Long. Charlie was a brilliant man, a talented musician, a truly kind person, and someone who was absolutely vital to the success of Revels for a long time. I understand that many folks would want to pay tribute to Charlie and his contributions to Revels. I imagine his family will let Revels folks know about plans when it is the right time." -- With sadness, Theresa Nelson Make a donation in honor of Charlie (include a note about your inspiration in the donation details.) |
