California Revels' inclusion, diversity, equity & action Statement
California Revels' Board IDEA Committee is instrumental in creating and evolving policies to support these principles.
California Revels believes people of all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, genders, orientations, incomes, and ages are connected as one global community through rich music, singing, dance, and storytelling. The passing on of these traditions unites us from one generation to the next, as well as within our local and global communities. It is through these traditions that, despite our differences, we can find common ground and mutual understanding.
It is our goal to highlight and educate on the unique cultures around us via the Arts, creating participatory opportunities for people to share their traditions as well as learn and interact with cultures other than their own. We believe the sharing of these traditions and the celebration of life within them are essential to the human spirit and should be available to all.
We realize that it is imperative for us to look beyond what we know. Our way forward is to open ourselves up to those around us—to partner and engage with our community in ways we have not before. We commit ourselves to intentional actions promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity in all we do.
Diversity and inclusion are at the core of our mission. As part of our commitment to creating celebration and opportunities to share traditions, we also commit to:
- Advance our work in the areas of anti-racism and anti-discrimination.
- Become better educated in these areas and share outward, creating a stronger and more welcoming environment grounded in diversity and understanding
- Apply a lens of equity and inclusion to all we say and do internally and in public
- Widen our Revels Circle by increasing the variety and depth of our year-round programming and our engagement with our community
- Share power and vision, and co-create these expansions and new opportunities by creating genuine, fulfilling, and sustainable partnerships with other groups, nonprofits, and Tradition Bearers of color and other backgrounds, sharing our traditions and creating new living traditions together
- Create structures within California Revels that allow for reflection, sharing, and education in the areas of diversity, inclusion, and anti-discrimination efforts.
California Revels knows our work in these areas is an ongoing process of learning, educating, and building programs with intention in partnership with others. Together we celebrate the diversity of people and tradition that unites us all.
We are on this journey with you and welcome your assistance, participation, and feedback.
The idea committee's work
The Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Action (IDEA) Committee's role, as a committee of the Board, is to research, draft, and recommend policies in support of these principles to the California Revels Board, for adoption within and throughout the company. Its work is to articulate and recommend policies that increase diversity, promote inclusion, and create a fair and equitable organization that advocates against racism and discrimination.
California Revels has established this committee of the Board, in its continuing mission to be a place that is welcoming, accessible, multicultural, and antiracist; to ensure that all people can identify and connect with what we do; and that our community both feels supported and supports us in return.

Multicultural Agreement
In any conversation, especially ones about systemic power (race, class, gender, etc), we know that each person is coming to the conversation with different levels of lived experience and embodied expertise. We believe that each person has something to contribute to the conversation. We value the differences among the multiple identities each of us carry, and we value every voice equally. In order to do so, we agree to uplift those voices most often silenced, such as the voices of People of Color (POC) or Queer, TransGender, Non-Conforming (QTGNC) people.
Pay Equity Statement
California Revels believes in the importance of diversity and inclusion, including ensuring that all individuals are compensated equitably for equal work and experience and have an equal opportunity to contribute and advance in the workplace.
