A Thank You Letter from Sofia Pellegrini, California Revels Board President
Dear Angel Donors!
We here at California Revels can't thank you enough! We sent you our "S.O.S. Message in a Bottle" and you stepped up! The state of our venture, the 37th Annual Midwinter Revels, was very much in doubt!
In June we realized that our resources were not enough, and that we really might not have a show! The arts have been going through a terrible time, and the pandemic didn't help. In July, we sent our last fundraising appeal for the year out... a true S.O.S. We had 6 WEEKS until August 17th, to raise $140,000.
Well... you may imagine... at the 6 week mark we were shy of our goal, by about $15,000. We fretted! We paced! We looked, disbelieving at one another... but then we started penciling out a stripped-down show, just to see if we could do it...
Then, miraculously, in just three more weeks... just over two months total, we met our goal!
Your generosity, in particular, gave us much courage and hope, and we are so grateful to you. It was because of that hope that we extended our timing just a little bit... and we're so glad we did. In the meantime, we have also stepped up our grant writing activities, several of us learning about and actively working that process for the first time. We mean to broaden our funding sources, and never become over-reliant on any one base of support. That said, we are so grateful for your very helpful and meaningful contribution.

This incredible moment in history ushers in a new age of movement, international trade and multicultural life in our golden state of California. This is the advent of California Statehood, the railroad, and the dawn of Pan-Pacific movement and trade. You will be treated to Chinese music and opera as seen through the eyes of Americans, and have a chance to view Californians - native and new - through the eyes of one of the world's most ancient, enduring cultures. Myth, legend and story from two continents interweave, spinning the golden California of memory and promise. You know this voyage as The Christmas Revels; this year, we embark on Midwinter Revels: A Celebration of the Solstice, and call our holiday journey "The Butterfly Lovers of Gold Mountain".
